What is the difference between Custom and Premium grade?
Custom is the default AWI standard: high-quality materials and workmanship with repairs invisible at 48 inches. Premium is the highest level: finest material selection, tightest tolerances, consistent cathedral grain, and repairs invisible at 24 inches. Premium is typically specified for hotel lobbies, boardrooms, and courtrooms.
Can grades be mixed within a single project?
Yes. Premium is often used for public-facing areas while Custom covers offices, storage rooms, and back-of-house spaces. Our documentation clearly marks grade boundaries and the applicable requirements for each zone.
Which grade is required for QCP certification?
Custom and Premium are eligible for QCP certification. Economy grade is not. About 80-90% of QCP-licensed firms work to Premium grade, and Premium certification automatically covers Custom grade work.
