What is the AWI Quality Certification Program (QCP)?
It's the architectural woodwork industry's quality assurance program. It verifies that millwork projects meet AWI Standards through licensed woodworking firms and third-party inspections. QCP-certified projects get a unique six-digit certification number and are endorsed by GSA, ASA, and CSI. The program covers Custom and Premium grades. Economy grade isn't eligible.
What are the three AWI quality grades?
Economy is basic quality for non-public areas. Custom is the default standard for high-quality architectural woodwork in schools, hospitals, and offices. Premium is the highest level, used for prestigious spaces like hotel lobbies, boardrooms, and courtrooms. Custom grade requires repairs to be invisible at 48 inches, while Premium requires that at 24 inches. About 80-90% of QCP-licensed firms work to Premium grade.

For example, Premium grade requires cathedral grain to point up consistently across the entire project and tighter panel gaps than Custom.
